The next stop after Big Bend…. 🌵 Tucson. AZ a

The next stop after Big Bend…. 🌵 Tucson. AZ and saguaro cacti! (Pronounced saw-uro). They are your quintessential old west cactus and the largest in the United States. 🌵And each of them have their own personality. They start branching arms at about 75 years old. The ones with the many arms could be close to 40 feet and 200 years old and weigh 7 tons!

We visited both sides of the Saguaro National Park. The east side is more of a drive through, some hiking and little less crowded. The west side is the busy side with more highlights to see. It took us about an hour to drive between the two since you need to travel through Tucson city. There is no campground in the National Park.

We spent a week at Catalina State Park and it was one of our favorite state parks so far. Beautiful campsite views, campground hosts were friendly, park activities; park bird walks and concerts. Beautiful hiking (we hiked through the cacti to a waterfall! ), flowers and good showers 🚿!! (Y’all know that’s an important campground amenity!)

Things to try in Tucson; Sonoran dog 🌭(bacon-wrapped hot dog topped with beans, mustard, mayo, onions, green salsa and tomatoes!)
Lots of breweries if you like 🍺 . We visited Borderlands, good beer and nice people.
Biosphere 2 is just north of town and a very cool stop! 🌎

I like Big Bend and I can not lie! This is was our second trip to this amazing park! We actually remembered to bring our passports so we paid the ferryman a fiver and walked into the little town of Boquillas for some souvenir shopping then lunch and a cerveza (or two) overlooking the Rio Grande and the states.

We’ve been traveling in our Tiny Red Caravan for 8+ years. We put so much work and love into making her ours it was a tough decision but it was time for few changes. The pandemic really changed how we would like to camp, more off grid so a bathroom, larger refrigerator and larger tanks started making sense. Also a different bed setup was becoming a necessity. 😴
After 1000 (I’m not joking) different ideas to make the Scamp larger, (scamp with a slide out???) we decided to try a Casita Liberty for the twin bed/queen/king bed options, larger refrigerator, bathroom and larger tanks. So we picked up a 2009 one last month. It’s is in great shape and we were busy making it ours (post and stories to come) and adding some upgrades before we hit the road.
I will not lie, the thought of selling our Scamp brought me many tears. We’ve had so many adventures with her, the good, bad and the “hold my beer” ones. And because she stands out just a tiny wee bit and is a conversation starter we’ve met soooo many amazing people! (You all know who you are! 😘 😘 )
But it’s time for her to go to a new home and be loved and cared for as much as we have, and be part of new memories. So 🥁 . . . she’s officially becoming a Grand-Scamp! I just love that I have kids that I can talk into, oops- WANT to travel and camp! 😜 So she’ll still pop up here in the IG world once in a while with family campouts.

Now the next big decision.. 🤔 Do I change the IG name or keep it the same??

Internet and down time, two things you need to kee

Internet and down time, two things you need to keep up with posts. Mainly internet, which has been very sparse the last two weeks. Going to try to catch up a little.
We’ve been greatly blessed with amazing friends that all enjoyed camping and the great outdoors! ⛺️ 🥾 🛶 🚲 (And some good libation stops at the end of the day! 😂 🍺 🍷)
Several times each year we meetup for group trips, we’ve been meeting in Florida to paddle, hike and bike for the past several years.
One of the rivers we paddle every year is Sliver River in Ocala, FL. You see the obligatory gators, egrets, herons, and such but you also get monkeys! 🙊 (Google sliver springs monkeys) I will not lie, they freak me out. They’ve been known to get aggressive because humans feed them. Humans, please don’t do that shit. But if you can just keep your distance and watch, they are fascinating, epecially the moms and babies. 💜

Seven years ago!! 🗓 I love it when these memories pop up. It’s good to remember that hard work really does pay off. We are still enjoying our little home on wheels!! March 11th, 2015, it was an exciting day at Base Scamp! Flooring was finished, sink, faucets and stove were fitted, cushions were made. (Still the hardest thing I’ve ever sewn!) We were happy scampers!! 😆 And a little tired! 🤪

The pandemic really changed how we would like to camp, more off grid so a bathroom, larger refrigerator and larger tanks started making sense. Also a different bed setup was becoming a necessity. 😴 After 1000 (I’m not joking) different ideas to make the Scamp larger, (scamp with a slide out???) we decided to try a Casita Liberty for the twin bed/queen/king bed options, larger refrigerator, bathroom and larger tanks. So we picked up a 2009 one last month. It’s is in great shape and we were busy making it ours (post and stories to come) and adding some upgrades before we hit the road. I will not lie, the thought of selling our Scamp brought me many tears. We’ve had so many adventures with her, the good, bad and the “hold my beer” ones. And because she stands out just a tiny wee bit and is a conversation starter we’ve met soooo many amazing people! (You all know who you are! 😘 😘 ) But it’s time for her to go to a new home and be loved and cared for as much as we have, and be part of new memories. Internet and down time, two things you need to kee

Internet and down time, two things you need to keep up with posts. Mainly internet, which has been very sparse the last two weeks. Going to try to catch up a little.
We’ve been greatly blessed with amazing friends that all enjoyed camping and the great outdoors! ⛺️ 🥾 🛶 🚲 (And some good libation stops at the end of the day! 😂 🍺 🍷)
Several times each year we meetup for group trips, we’ve been meeting in Florida to paddle, hike and bike for the past several years.
One of the rivers we paddle every year is Sliver River in Ocala, FL. You see the obligatory gators, egrets, herons, and such but you also get monkeys! 🙊 (Google sliver springs monkeys) I will not lie, they freak me out. They’ve been known to get aggressive because humans feed them. Humans, please don’t do that shit. But if you can just keep your distance and watch, they are fascinating, epecially the moms and babies. 💜

Seven years ago!! 🗓 I love it when these memories pop up. It’s good to remember that hard work really does pay off. We are still enjoying our little home on wheels!! March 11th, 2015, it was an exciting day at Base Scamp! Flooring was finished, sink, faucets and stove were fitted, cushions were made. (Still the hardest thing I’ve ever sewn!) We were happy scampers!! 😆 And a little tired! 🤪

Tiny Red Caravan at Bayou Segnette State Park

The next stop after Big Bend…. 🌵 Tucson. AZ a

The next stop after Big Bend…. 🌵 Tucson. AZ and saguaro cacti! (Pronounced saw-uro). They are your quintessential old west cactus and the largest in the United States. 🌵And each of them have their own personality. They start branching arms at about 75 years old. The ones with the many arms could be close to 40 feet and 200 years old and weigh 7 tons!

We visited both sides of the Saguaro National Park. The east side is more of a drive through, some hiking and little less crowded. The west side is the busy side with more highlights to see. It took us about an hour to drive between the two since you need to travel through Tucson city. There is no campground in the National Park.

We spent a week at Catalina State Park and it was one of our favorite state parks so far. Beautiful campsite views, campground hosts were friendly, park activities; park bird walks and concerts. Beautiful hiking (we hiked through the cacti to a waterfall! ), flowers and good showers 🚿!! (Y’all know that’s an important campground amenity!)

Things to try in Tucson; Sonoran dog 🌭(bacon-wrapped hot dog topped with beans, mustard, mayo, onions, green salsa and tomatoes!)
Lots of breweries if you like 🍺 . We visited Borderlands, good beer and nice people.
Biosphere 2 is just north of town and a very cool stop! 🌎

We actually remembered to bring our passports so we paid the ferryman a fiver and walked into the little town of Boquillas for some souvenir shopping then lunch and a cerveza (or two) overlooking the Rio Grande and the states.

We’ve been greatly blessed with amazing friends that all enjoyed camping and the great outdoors! ⛺️ 🥾 🛶 🚲 (And some good libation stops at the end of the day! 😂 🍺 🍷) Several times each year we meetup for group trips, we’ve been meeting in Florida to paddle, hike and bike for the past several years. One of the rivers we paddle every year is Sliver River in Ocala, FL. You see the obligatory gators, egrets, herons, and such but you also get monkeys! 🙊 (Google sliver springs monkeys) I will not lie, they freak me out. They’ve been known to get aggressive because humans feed them. Humans, please don’t do that shit. But if you can just keep your distance and watch, they are fascinating, epecially the moms and babies. 💜">

Seven years ago!! 🗓 I love it when these memories pop up. It’s good to remember that hard work really does pay off. We are still enjoying our little home on wheels!! March 11th, 2015, it was an exciting day at Base Scamp! Flooring was finished, sink, faucets and stove were fitted, cushions were made. (Still the hardest thing I’ve ever sewn!) We were happy scampers!! 😆 And a little tired! 🤪
